Career Strategies -  Consulting Services for Recent or Pending Graduates

More than 1.5 million new college grads will make their way into the real world this year (2007).  While their baby boomer parents are managing an "empty nest" transition, new grads are struggling with their own transition into the "real world".

At Rinker and Associates, we address the needs of recent graduates (or students who will be graduating soon) in their search for a real, grown-up job.  Most career offices on campuses focus on ensuring the student graduates rather than address the real world needs of the student in preparation for their job search.  We teach them how to sell their strengths, tell their story rather than just write a resume, and develop effective interviewing finesse.

Focus topics include (and are not limited to):

bulletBusiness Etiquette and Protocol
bulletBest First Impression
bulletInterviewing and Networking Techniques
bulletBusiness Correspondence
bulletHow to Know if You Are a Good Fit for the Company (and vice-a-versa)
bulletHow to Navigate Organizational Structures

Human resources managers say that 85% of new grads are significantly unprepared to be interviewed let alone hired in the real world of business.  Most fledglings make the mistake of relying heavily on a chronological listing of what they've done rather than what they can do.  There is no "story" in their resume.  A lot of "what", but little or no "so what".

We teach new college grads how to tell their story.  We show them how to translate their non-work related experience (senior project work, volunteer campus work, etc.) into something that would interest a job interviewer.  For instance, if they worked with a diverse team on a senior project, it could be related in terms of effective teamwork or communication needed to get the project (job) done in a timely fashion (on schedule and on budget).

In addition to the job search process itself, we help new college grads learn business etiquette and protocol commonly utilized in the corporate world.  Everything from making the best first impression, to networking, to business correspondence, to understanding how a matrix-management organization works, and so on.

With more than a million new grads, we realize there is nothing more important than starting them on the right foot as they enter the economic workforce.
